Abstract

Objective: To present and discuss the municipal tree compensation policy of Morro Agudo/SP under the perspective of Nature-based Solutions (NbS), highlighting its role in urban tree restoration and the promotion of socio-environmental resilience.

Methodology: The study was carried out through documentary analysis of the municipal policy, literature review on urban forestry and NbS, and observation of practical actions of management, removal, and compensation of trees performed in partnership with CPFL Energia.

Originality/Relevance: This research expands the debate on the application of NbS in Brazil, still scarcely disseminated, by showing how local public policies can incorporate sustainability principles and ecosystem services into their implementation.

Results: The replacement of exotic, dead, or risk-prone trees with native seedlings, the implementation of permeable sidewalks, and the donation of seedlings by public agencies were observed, aligning with NbS by promoting urban safety, biodiversity conservation, and the strengthening of ecosystem services.

Theoretical/Methodological Contributions: The study highlights the integration between municipal urban forestry policies and the NbS concept, emphasizing the need for technical planning, proper management, and social participation for effective outcomes.

Social and Environmental Contributions: The policy enhances population quality of life by reducing urban risks, expanding green areas, and promoting environmental education, showing that local solutions can generate positive social and ecological impacts.
