The School Garden as Urban Green Infrastructure

Objective – Understand the school community’s perception of green areas in their spaces, with an emphasis on gardens, aiming at the implementation of a school garden design proposal.
Methodology – The study presents a qualitative approach in two stages: a questionnaire and participation in extension activities, with the purpose of developing landscape design proposals with didactic gardens in school spaces.
Originality/Relevance – Integrates teaching, research, and extension by discussing the role of school green spaces.
Results – Schools recognize the importance of greenery but face challenges; the project showed that creative and collaborative solutions can make didactic gardens feasible.
Theoretical/Methodological Contributions – Integrates social and technical knowledge, encourages the creation of green spaces in schools, and contributes to the training of university students through extension.
Social and Environmental Contributions – School gardens contribute to improving health, well-being and learning, support pedagogical practices, promote environmental awareness, and strengthen community involvement in sustainable projects.
