Abstract

The constructive growth of the Jabotiana neighborhood was promoted by Housing Programs and generated great urban evolution, environmental degradation and damage to open spaces. A study was carried out on the occupation process and the environmental consequences, focusing on the themes - Free Spaces and Urban Drainage. The study used bibliographical and documental reviews, analysis of satellite images, field visits and application of virtual interviews, the last two were fundamental for the elaboration of thematic maps. The research focused on four types of Free Spaces: Permanent Protection Areas, Squares, Sidewalks and Condominium Collective Spaces; analyzing its distribution and situation in the region, also investigating the opinion of the population. Within this analysis, the population characterized these open spaces as places without many attractions, deficient infrastructure and unsafe. Therefore, they are spaces that need improvement to achieve their goals. In addition to presenting an excellent social and environmental function, open spaces are potential instruments for urban drainage, through sustainable strategies.
