This article analyzes workplace safety practices in demolition projects in restricted areas of Recife (PE), which represent a snapshot of recent transformations in its public spaces through gentrification. To do so, the methodology employed a quantitative-qualitative approach, divided into: characterization of the topic through an essay on the origins of this phenomenon and the historical formation of the social fabric of the studied region; compliance analysis of activities from the perspective of occupational safety, using a checklist based on NR-18 – Safety and Health at Work in the Construction Industry. Data were processed and presented through tables and graphs; and a brief discussion of these results considering the paradigms of occupational safety. The results show that the standards outlined in the regulations were partially met, revealing cultural and organizational aspects in the analyzed companies that could be improved in their production processes. The discussion also underscored the social importance of adequately relocating individuals affected by this policy, taking into account their social and cultural characteristics, to prevent them from returning to these risky areas due to difficulties in adapting when moved to distant locations from their place of origin.
