This research focuses on the study of flooding in the Maré favela complex, located in Rio de Janeiro. According to the predictions of Nicoloti (2010) and Bjarke (2015), the city of Rio de Janeiro is expected to be the Brazilian municipality most affected by natural disasters, such as floods, in the coming years. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze, from the perspective of climate change, how flooding has increased its influence on this specific territory. The research seeks to identify the flooded areas in Maré and understand the factors contributing to this situation. To achieve this, a historical analysis of the relationship between the Maré favelas and water, since the formation of the territory, was carried out to understand the perpetuation of a vulnerability scenario. Two main points were selected for a more in-depth analysis within the territory, with the aim of studying the causes and impacts of the floods in detail. This approach aims to provide a clearer understanding of the relationship between Maré's geographical context and the recurrence of floods, as well as contribute to the development of strategies that mitigate the impacts of climate change in the region, proposing more suitable solutions to address the challenges posed by this reality.
