Steel companies produce a large amount of slag waste from their industrial processes. The objective of the work is to use this residue as an alternative to partially replacing sand in the manufacture of concrete. This factor is important because sand is a non-renewable material and its demand is continually decreasing, which consequently increases its price. The work approach is qualitative, in which a bibliographical research was carried out to evaluate the feasibility of using the waste in concrete. It was found that it could be a favorable alternative, which encouraged the execution of the work in a construction laboratory. Fluidity tests and compression tests were carried out, both results were satisfactory. The use of slag residue in concrete would reduce tons of material in the industry yard, which would reduce environmental impacts, in addition to reducing high expenses with its final disposal. For society, the contribution would be with new alternatives for generating jobs, as well as reducing the cost of sand, which would be partially replaced by waste. Lower-cost sand makes it easier to access housing, as the price per m³ of sand is constantly increasing.
