Abstract

The concept of linear parks emerged in the 19th century in Europe, however, in Brazil this idea was initially used in 1965 through the Forest Code and promoted by several other Laws and Regulations. In São Paulo, due to its rapid urban densification, the concept of linear parks was implemented with the institution of the Strategic Master Plan of 2002, which defines linear parks as green areas aligned with watercourses that have several ecological functions. In view of this, this research seeks to highlight the contribution of linear parks to the reduction of floods through the case study of the Canivete-Bananal Linear Park, located in the city of São Paulo. This study was prepared on an experimental basis, through the “hypothetical-deductive method” developed in depth by Marconi and Lakatos (2017). For the bibliographic analysis of the impacts of the park, a survey of annual precipitation data from the region in which it is located was carried out, considering 20 years, 10 before the construction of the park and 10 after its implementation, and the historical contextualization of the region was also prepared. In addition, through geoprocessing, maps of the spatial distribution of flooding and the use and occupation of the basin were prepared to understand the impact of the construction of the park, considering the same interval of precipitation. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is no causal relationship between the implementation of the park and the reduction of flooding; however, it is possible to show that this area corroborates urban drainage, since it corresponds to 0.12% of the permeable area in the region.
