ABSTRACT
Objective – This study systematically reviews the effectiveness of magnesium supplementation as a nutritional strategy to mitigate the adverse effects of menopause, considering its role in promoting health and well-being in the context of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 of the 2030 Agenda.
Methodology – The research analyzed 16 articles published between 2019 and 2024 in the Scopus and Rasbran databases. The focus was on the benefits of magnesium for bone, cardiovascular, and psychological health, evaluating its interaction with other nutrients and its impact on the quality of life of menopausal women.
Originality/relevance – The study highlights magnesium as an essential component in personalized nutritional strategies for menopausal women. The research contributes to the discussion on sustainable and SDG-aligned nutritional interventions, emphasizing the importance of supplementation as an accessible and effective approach to improving women's health.
Results – Findings indicate that adequate magnesium supplementation can improve sleep quality, reduce anxiety, and strengthen bone health, especially when combined with vitamin B6. The observed benefits reinforce the importance of nutrition in promoting women's overall health and preventing chronic diseases associated with menopause.
Theoretical/methodological contributions – The study emphasizes the need for ongoing research on the relationship between magnesium supplementation and health in menopause, as well as the development of evidence-based nutritional guidelines.
Social and environmental contributions – The research highlights the potential of magnesium supplementation as an accessible and sustainable strategy for promoting global health. The nutritional approach aligned with SDG 3 contributes to public health interventions aimed at improving the quality of life for aging women.
