Objective – To develop a landscape proposal at the mass plan level for the Botanical Garden at the Arapiraca Campus of the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), aiming to promote scientific research, environmental education, the appreciation of native vegetation, the preservation of biodiversity, and the enhancement of academic social spaces.
Methodology – Literature review on landscaping and botanical gardens community and physical-environmental diagnosis of the intervention area; and project development based on the environmental, urban, and social constraints identified in the site.
Originality/relevance – The work seeks to fill a gap in green infrastructure at the Arapiraca Campus, engaging with local biomes and proposing an educational, sensorial, and inclusive space. The project highlights ecological landscaping practices in a transition zone between the Caatinga and the Atlantic Forest.
Results – Development of a landscape mass plan with zoning, program of requirements, design concept, spatialization of vegetation strata, and integration with the existing campus infrastructure.
Theoretical/methodological contributions – Incorporates into the local academic context the concepts of landscape ecology, sustainability, and landscape architecture, providing design guidelines adaptable to university spaces.
Social and environmental contributions – Provides space for environmental education, well-being, leisure, and biodiversity appreciation, contributing to civic formation and raising awareness within the university community.
