Access to drinking water is an essential condition for the quality of life of populations, therefore, understood as a fundamental right. However, several countries, including Brazil, are still unable to guarantee the universalization of water supply systems. About basic sanitation in semi-arid regions, this research had as its main objective the analysis of the development of the water supply system in the municipality of Garanhuns (PE). The research, with a longitudinal quantitative analysis characteristic, was developed based on data on the population served, number of connections, control by micromeasurement and total extension of the network, obtained from reports from the National Sanitation Information System, as well as from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. The methodology includes the construction of scatter diagrams, the insertion of models using the least squares method, and evaluation using Pearson's correlation and determination coefficients. The results show linear growth, with coefficients of determination always higher than 0.9, in all variables analyzed, corresponding to an increase of 30.0% in the population served, 81.5% in the number of connections, 176, 5% in micromeasurement control and 109.8% in network extension.
