Objective – Investigate and critically analyze an iconographic set of favelas and urban communities, with a view to constructing a state of the art that supports a research project aimed at developing methods, procedures and devices for the graphic representation of hidden dimensions of favelas and urban communities.
Methodology – Carrying out an iconographic and bibliographic survey, in addition to critical analysis, of favelas and urban communities, according to Warburg (2010).
Originality/Relevance – It is necessary to deepen critical reflection on the methods, procedures and devices for graphic representation in the field of Architecture and Urbanism, especially in vulnerable contexts such as favelas and urban communities.
Results – An iconographic collection of Brazilian favelas and urban communities from the second half of the 20th century, along with their relational and critical analysis. This collection provides input for the development of a research project.
Theoretical/Methodological Contributions – Methodological contribution regarding iconographic analysis as an important subsidy to the conceptual, theoretical and methodological discussion in the field.
Social and Environmental Contributions – Contribution to the reflection and redefinition of perceptions and dialogues with favelas and urban communities.
