Due to the advancement of urbanization and the increase in waterproof areas, several parts of the city of Recife, including Rua Benfica, in front of Praça Euclides da Cunha, become susceptible to flooding during periods of intense rain. Given this scenario, this study proposes the implementation of a Rain Garden (JC) as a sustainable solution to mitigate recurrent flooding. The research was carried out using simulations in the Hydrus-1D software, considering four layers of soil, in addition to rainfall data obtained from the National Center for Monitoring and Alerts of Natural Disasters, with the objective of predicting the JC's water retention capacity on rainy days. . The results indicate a significant reduction in surface runoff, with a decrease in the number of flooding days from 194 to 15 in the analyzed period. It was observed that operational events greater than 30 mm present a high risk of flooding in the area. These findings suggest that improving the garden on site is efficient in containing flooding, in addition to promoting environmental benefits, it also represents a viable solution to improve urban drainage in the face of rain events on Rua Benfica.
